Government Committed to Housing Agenda to Benefit Rakyat Across Various Socio-Economic Background
KUALA LUMPUR, 24 MARCH 2018: Perbadanan PR1MA Malaysia (PR1MA), the Government’s housing programme catered for the middle income (M40) group, today unveiled that 16,000 of its homes nationwide have been taken up with an estimated gross development value (GDV) of RM4 billion in just under two years. To date, PR1MA Members of Corporation (MOC), has approved more than 267,640 homes nationwide for development.
This is a true testament to the Government’s effort to deliver on the National Housing Agenda for the Rakyat in the M40 income group and is on track to fulfilling its commitment to build 500,000 homes for the Rakyat.
One of PR1MA’s successful projects, the PR1MA @ Jalan Jubilee in Bukit Bintang was oversubscribed by 27 times with a total of 224 units or 42% of the 542 units taken up in only three days after it was open for sale, which goes to show the strong demand for PR1MA products.
“The housing agenda has always been given high priority by the Federal Government. Whilst there are existing public housing programmes for the lower income (B40) group, the M40 income group has a different set of requirements for housing. As such, in line with the inclusive housing agenda of the Government, via its agencies such as Perbadanan PR1MA Malaysia (PR1MA), Perumahan Penjawat Awam 1Malaysia (PPA1M), Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad (SPNB) as well as Rumah Wilayah Persekutuan (RUMAWIP), will continue to build more quality homes for the M40 in urban, suburban and new urban areas. This is to support the Government’s promise to deliver 1 million affordable homes nationwide under the implementation of the 11th Malaysia Plan and the National Housing Policy,” said Dato’ Abdul Mutalib Alias, Chief Executive Officer of PR1MA.
“Moreover, the national housing agenda will also create a multiplier effect that will not only have a spill-over benefit for the Rakyat in terms of wealth creation but also contributes to the overall socio-economic transformation of the country,” he added.
According to a Khazanah Research Institute report, the economic multiplier effect that the country will enjoy is 1.9 times of the project's total Gross Development Value. In fact, the Department of Statistics Malaysia also reported that the value of construction work done in the fourth quarter 2017 is at RM35.1 billion, a growth of 7.7 per cent year-on-year. The public sector continues to propel the construction activity with 36.7 per cent share (RM12.9 billion).
Meanwhile, the 9-day “Ekspo Jualan Perumahan – Ke Arah Sejuta Impian”, National Edition, organised by various Federal and State Housing agencies such as Perbadanan PR1MA Malaysia (PR1MA); Ministry of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government (KPKT), Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad (SPNB); 1Malaysia Housing Projects for Civil Servants (PPA1M) as well as Federal Territories Affordable Housing (RUMAWIP), showcased more than 600,000 homes , which are catered for both the lower income (B40) and middle income (M40) groups.
The expo “Ekspo Jualan Perumahan – Ke Arah Sejuta Impian”, which is by far the largest ever housing expo showcasing projects from all over the country, was officiated today by Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Bin Tun Haji Abdul Razak.

“As Malaysia moves towards becoming a high-income nation, the Rakyat’s desire for better quality of life will also increase, including living in community-based quality homes which are safe and comfortable. In the future, PR1MA homes will no longer be seen as a last resort to own a home, but a want; an evolution of the public housing programme in the country. We want to set the benchmark for housing for the M40 communities,” concluded Dato’ Abdul Mutalib Alias, Chief Executive Officer of PR1MA.
