LANGKAWI, 14 September– In an effort to provide more affordable homes in Langkawi, Perbadanan PR1MA Malaysia (PR1MA) has recently entered into a partnership with the Langkawi Development Authority (LADA) through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The signing ceremony was witnessed by Prime Minister YAB Datuk Seri Najib Tun Abdul Razak. PR1MA was represented by its Chairman Tan Sri Dr Jamaludin Jarjis and Chief Executive Officer Dato’ Abdul Mutalib Alias R03;R03;and LADA was represented by its Chief Executive Officer Tan Sri Khalid Ramli.
The housing development project is seen as PR1MA’s ongoing commitment towards providing an aid to ease the concerns surrounding housing affordability of those in the middle income group.
The development will cover a total of 144 acres whereby it will be separated into two main phases. Phase 1 with an estimated land area of 55 acres will consist of approximately 1,000 units of PR1MA Homes comprising of single and double storey terrace houses as well as mid-rise apartments. This phase is expected to kick-off by end of 2015. The location of the homes will be equipped with public facilities to meet the needs of the residents. The remaining land will be part of Phase 2 for future development.

According to the Chief Executive Officer of LADA, Tan Sri Khalid Ramli, "The collaborative housing project is one of our efforts in providing good quality homes to the public, which we hope will improve the socio-economic conditions of the people in Langkawi.As set by Langkawi Tourism Blueprint 2011-2015, Langkawi residents have benefited immensely from tourism growth and investment projects. PR1MA's development is another project that will give opportunity for the local entrepreneurs in terms of raising their economic values and to solve the lack of medium cost housing in Langkawi.”
As at end August, PR1MA has approved 70 projects to provide opportunities for more middle-income earners in Malaysia to have a chance at owning a PR1MA home. Some of the strategic locations of PR1MA homes include Klang Valley, Negeri Sembilan, Johore, Penang, Perak, Kedah, Sabah and Sarawak. From the 70 projects, seven are in Kedah and the locations include Alor Setar, Kuala Ketil, Sungai Petani and Kulim.
So far more than 700,000 Malaysians have already signed up for the chance to own a PR1MA home. Of the total, 10,335 registrants have interest in owing a home in Kedah and 865 registrants have interest in owning a home in Langkawi.
Conditions for eligibility
Applicants must meet certain conditions to qualify as PR1MA home onwers. Application is open to all Malaysians aged 21 years and above, and will be given priority to residents in areas where the PR1MA housing is in construction.
Applicants should also have a gross monthly household income of individual or a combination between RM2,500 to RM7,500 to qualify. In addition, applicants should not have more than one residential property in Malaysia.
